Cèrilo (Claudio Lardo), a rich Sicilian gentleman, is in love with Asteria (Denny Mendez), daughter of the Prince of Gela, Anticlo. The woman is the most beautiful in Sicily, but at the same time haughty, so much so that she considers all men unworthy of her to the point of swearing: "I will only marry a God or will I become a priestess". Cérilo does not want to give up his love and asks for help from Fliace (Vito Cesaro), director of a shabby company of wandering comedians (Massimo Pagano, Christian Salicone and Filippo D'Amato); with their complicity, he hatches a plan to kidnap the woman.
This dramma satiresco (satyric drama) can be traced back to the sphere of Dionysus' cult, he is the god of ecstasy, wine, intoxication and liberation of the senses; the ancient comedy was characterized by the fairly simple structure in which the choir was made up of elements disguised as goat satyrs who moved on the stage alternating moments of theatrical acting with moments of lively dance called sikinnis. In a happy symbiosis, the dramma satiresco presented the structure of the tragedy and the farcical color of the comedy. There are burlesque and grotesque aspects. The original text, like other theatrical texts of the early 1900s, was in rhymes. The adaption work, respecting the original text, has made it smoother, faster, sometimes surreal, with closing comic lines that shift the axis from rhyming drama to brilliant comedy.
